Wall of Shame

This is a rear wall ~1 meter behind a 1.0T OR42 magnet in the Western USA. The plans called for magnetic shielding to contain the field lines within the wall. The planning and installation was done by one of the largest shielding companies in the world.

The wall itself was made of standard 12-inch cinder block. The shielding company elected to use expansion anchors which promptly failed. When we arrived to do the startup of the equipment, this is what we found.

The plates on the floor were not bolted or secured in any fashion.

Many of the nuts could be loosened by hand.

Some of the wall plates did not line up and were not bolted in at all.

Loose nuts on the wall plates.

Some plates had holes drilled, but no bolts were put in place.

Here the expansion anchor failed, but was left in place.

Another failed expansion anchor on the left and an entirely missing bolt on the right.
