The Hospital Gown Cannon Experiment

In this incident, a magnet was brought in for storage and was waiting for the coldhead equipment to arrive. A series of missteps by the deinstallation team resulted in a four day delay.

While the magnet was sitting in the warehouse over the weekend, it overpressurized due to ice buildup inside the turret and blew the bursting disk. A hospital gown which had been stuffed into the quench pipe by the deinstallers was shot like a cannonball straight up into the 16 foot high ceiling.
